LINSLADE is a parish adjoining Leighton Buzzard, bounded on the east by the river Ousel, which separates the counties of Bedford and Buckingham; it is in the hundred of Cottesloe, union and county court district of Leighton Buzzard, rural deanery of Mursley, archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Oxford. The new church of St. Barnabus was erected in 1849, with the National scholl adjoining, at a cost of £3,000. The living is a perpetual curacy, of the yearly value of £120, in the gift of the Bishop of Oxford, and held by the Rev. Henry Atkinson Gibson, M.A., of Whadham College, Oxford, and surrogate for the archdeaconry of Buckingham. The old church of St. Mary, the tower of which contains a very sweet peal of bells, is now only used for burials and occasionally for divine worship in summer, and forms, with the manor house and two cottages, the present old village of Linslade. The new village, now rapidly assuming the proportions of a town, is built contiguous to the new Leighton railway station, on the London and North Western Railway, and adjoining the town of Leighton Buzzard. The Grand Junction Canal passes through here, occupying 30 acres of this parish. The petty sessions for the Ivinghoe division of Cottesloe hundred are held here. A fife and drum band has been recently established in this parish, under the leadership of Mr. E. Pullen. There are two small charities, left under the wills of Mrs. Peacock and Sir A. Corbett, Bart., which are annually distributed amongst the poor. The population in 1861 was 1,511; the acreage is 1,850. William Pulsford Esq., is lord of the manor.

SOUTHCOTT is a small hamlet included in the parish of Linslade, one mile west from Leighton Buzzard.
