Transcript
In the name of God Amen the sixth day of November
in the yeare of our Lord God according to the English Accompt one
one thousand six hundred fifty eight. I John Ashwell of Layton
Bussard in the County of Bedford the elder yeoman being aged sicke
and weake of body yett of good and perfect remembrance praysed
be God therefore, Doe make constitute and ordeyne this my last
will and testament in manner and forme followeing, that is to say;
First I yeild and willingly submitt my soule into the hands of
Allmighty god my maker hopeing to be saved by and through the meritts
death passion resurrecion and assension of Jesus Christ my Saviour
and redeemer and my body to the earth from whence it came to be
decently buried in Christian buriall according to the discrec[i]on
of my Executors hereafter named And as touching my temporall estate
which God of his infiniti mercy and goodnes hath bin pleased to
bestowe upon me far above my desarts, I dispose of the same as
followeth, that is to saie, First I give and bequeath unto my Daughter
Mary the some of Fortie pounds of lawfull money of England to be
paid within two yeares next after my decease unto her by my executors
here after named, And also I give and bequeath unto my daughter
Sarah Ashwell the some of Thirty pounds of like English money Tenn
pounds thereof to be paid unto her within six months next after
my decease, and the other twenty pounds to be paid unto her within
one yeare and \a/ halfe next after my decease, And also I give
and bequeath unto my said daughter Sarah one pound six shilling
and eight pence for to buy her a bedsteed, And also I give unto
my said daughter Sarah one Cubbord and a Pottshelfe One chest and
a Cofer one flockbed one Coverlett one blankett one feather pillowe
three pewter platters and the lesser my two bigger Ketles, And
also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary my feather bed and
feather boulster, my bedsteed in the lofte, my biggest Ketle my
biggest pottage pott one flocke bed and all my goods whatsoever
which usually doe stand and be within my hall, and also six pewter
platters, and my three yeare old heifer and also my two best Ewes
sheepe and my brasse pan and all singuler other my goods and
Chattells whatsoever not here by me willed and bequeathed my debts
and Legacies paid and my funerall expences discharged I give and
bequeath unto my two sonns Edward and Beniamin who I doe make constitute
and \ordeyne/ to be executors of this my last will and testam[en]t
utterly revokeing and makeing void and null all former wills and
bequests whatsoever by me made or don either by word or writeing,
In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day
and yeare first above written John Ashwell the elder his marke
Memorand theis words (my brasse pann) were enterlyned in the one
and thirteth lyne before the ensealeing and delivery hereof. Sealed
