In the name of God Amen The one and twentith day
of december in the yere of our lord god one thousand Six hundred
Fifty two I Richard Leach the elder of Laighton Bussard in the
County of Bedford yeoman beinge Sicke in body but in good Sound
and perfect memory praysed bee Allmighty god for it Knoweinge the
Certainty of death and the uncertainety of the time doe make and
ordaine this my Last Will and Testam[en]t in manner and forme Followeinge
Vizt. First and principally I bequeath my bequeath my Soule into
the hands of Allmighty god my maker Trustinge assuredly that in
and through the death and merritts of his blessed Sonne the Lord
Jesus Christ my only Savio[ur] and Redeemer to have eternall and
everlastinge life in his kingdome And my body I Committ unto the
earth from whence it came And to bee Cently buried at the discretion
of my Executrix hereafternamed And as for and Concerninge my Temporall
Estate which it hath pleased god to blesse mee withall as is hereafter
expressed That is to Saye First I give and bequeath unto Oliver
Leach my youngest Sonne three Score pounds of good and lawfull
monie of England To bee payd to him by my Executrix the Nyne and
twentith day of September which shalbee in the yeare of our Lord
god one thousand Six hundred Fifty five But if my Sayde Sonne Oliver
Shall depart this life before the Sayd Three Score pounds of Lawfull
monie is due to bee payde to him Then my will is That my Sayde
Executrix Shall pay Forty pounds of lawfull monie of the Sayde
Three Score pounds unto my Three daughters Elizabeth Anne and Jane
by equall portions or Soe many of them as Shall then Survive and
live And the other Twenty pounds to remaine in my Executrix is
hand Item I give unto Elizabeth Leach my daughter Fifteene pounds
of lawfull monie of England and my best Coverlett and a Silver
Spoone to bee payde to her by my Executrix within two moneths after
my decease Item I give unto Anne Leach my daughter Tweelve pounds
of like lawfull monie of England and one Silver Spoone to bee payd
to her by my Executrix within two moneths after my decease Item
I give unto my two daughters Elizabeth Leach and Anne Leach one
beareing Cloath and all my Childbed Lynnen to bee Equally devided
betweene them Item I give unto Jane Leach my daughter one and fifty
pounds of good and lawfull monie of England to bee payde to her
by my Executrix when Shee Shall accomplish the age of Eighteene
yeares and alsoe two Silver Spoones And Further my will is That
if the Sayde Jane my daughter Shall depart this life before Shee
accomplish the Sayd yeares and beinge unmarried Then my will is
That the Sayd one and fifty pounds of lawfull monie Shalbee equally
devided amongst all my Children that Shall live and Survive after
my wives decease And then to bee payde amongst them as aforesayde
Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Leach my Sonne All the beddinge
and other household goods which hee hath in his possession at this
time of mine Item I give unto the poore people of Laighton Twenty
Shillings to bee payd within one moneth after my decease and to
bee distributed amongst the poore at the discretion of Church wardens
and Overseers of the poore And further my will is That my Executors
Shall maintaine my daughter Jane untill her portion is due to bee
payd All the Rest of my goods Chattles and Cattel unbequeathed
my debts and Legacies payd and discharged And my body decently
buried I give and bequeath to Jane my deare and welbeloved wife
whom I doe make and ordaine my full and whole Executrix of this
my last will and Testament In Witnes whereof I have hereunto Sett
my hand and Seale The day and yeare first above written Richard
Leach. Sealed published and declared in the presence of Thomas
Honner Daniel Leach Beniamin Leach.
